It’s always nice to see familiar faces at the Moscow Open festival, especially when we are talking about the winners of last year's tournament. We bumped into the triumphant of the Men’s 2013 tournament in the hall at the end of the first competition day, and we just couldn’t pass by without saying a word.
- Boris, we are glad to meet you at the festival again! How many times have you participated in the Moscow Open at RSSU?
- Good afternoon, nice to see you, too. Honestly, I have lost count. For sure more than 5 times.
- Is there a reason to be happy today?
- No. I've have just finished probably one of the worst games in my life.
- Did you loose?
- A draw, and extremely fortunate at that.
- What’s the reason for that? I remember that you said that quite a warm weather helped to win when we were talking last year. Maybe now the terrible frost is the reason?
- Today the temperature has finally started rising. I hope that this is just a sad fluke that will not become a pattern.
- What was the course of the game?
- With mishaps (laughing). I played an opening variation that I don’t know too well. The opponent won a crushing advantage, then made an incorrect piece sacrifice and I got a position with an even greater advantage. I figure that now I just need to be very accurate in my calculations. It seemed to me that I am. Then I end up with a completely lost position… So I'm wondering if now is the time to resign, but decided that I owe it to my opponent to make him realize the win himself. I was just shuffling my pieces, feeling deeply ashamed. But my opponent made one slip after another and we ended up in a drawn ending.
- I see you aren't letting it get to you.
- What’s the use in getting upset? There is no sense.
- Any plans on how to bounce back?
- Of course. I'm going to cheer myself up, buy some new software. I was just about to go shopping for CDs…
- Good luck!
