Several favorites couldn’t take the win in the third round games of the Moscow Open 2014, RSSU Cup and had to be satisfied with the drawn results.
At the Moscow Open Premier Russian Cup European Champion Alexander Moiseenko (Ukraine) shared the point with another Ukrainian player Vitaliy Sivuk, Russian Maxim Matlakov finished a game with Rustam Khusnutdinov (Kazakhstan) with the drawn result, Mateusz Bartel (Poland) didn’t manage to take a win in the game against Tigran Simonian (Armenia). Besides, Russian grandmasters Dmitry Kokarev and Pavel Ponkratov couldn’t beat young compatriots Kirill Kozionov and Daniil Yuffa correspondingly; both players haven’t reached the age of 17 yet.
It’s worth noticing the successful performance of the representative of the Women’s National Team of India Soumia Svaminatan. She managed to take 3 wins in a row. Thanks to that she is in the group of leaders with 5 men-grandmasters.
Two rating favorites finished their games with the drawn result in the Women’s Cup of Russia stage. Anastasia Bodnaruk from Russia finished the game with another Russian player Dina Drozdova peacefully, and Ekaterina Atalik (Turkey) achieved the same result in her game against Alina Bivol (Russia). Another favorite Nino Batsiashvili (Georgia) lost to Julia Dogodkina (Russia). Eight chess players have scored 3 points each after the three rounds of this tournament.
The main favorite in the RSSU Senior Cup, winner of the last competition grandmaster Evgeny Sveshnikov (Latvia) had a draw in the game with the representative of Russia Juri Rumjantsev. At the same time another titled participant of the competitions Russian grandmaster Yuri Balashov won the third game in a row and shares the first line with other 12 participants.
The Champion of Uzbekistan Nafisa Muminova has the best result in the Women’s Student Grandmaster tournaments. She has earned all 3 possible points. Meri Arabidze (Georgia), Maria Severina and Varvara Saulina from Russia have scored 2 points each.
Vladislav Artemiev and Andrey Stukopin are leading in the Men’s Student Grandmaster tournament. Both have gained 2.5 points.
The games of the 4th Round will be held on Tuesday Feb 4.
